Yoga & Body Image

Yoga is something I've always loved.  No matter how crappy my days been, or how much of a headache I've had, or how stressed out I am, yoga always brings me back to a place where I'm happy.  To me getting healthy and in shape isn't about having an ideal body, it's about feeling good; and honestly, I feel AMAZING after yoga!

I feel beautiful, I feel strong, I feel accomplished, and I feel relaxed.  Yoga isn't about perfection, it's about reaching a personal level of achievement.

I have not been flexible since I was 11 and left gymnastics to pursue a career in the girl scouts, so I am not one of those people bending all over the place and standing on my head.  I attend beginners and slow, heated, classes and use that time to think of what I'm grateful for in my life.

At the end of every class we take corpse pose.  This pose is just laying on your back and relaxing your muscles with mental silence.  Since 80% of me is pretty Type A, I have a hard time silencing my mind.  So instead I think about the things I was able to do in class, how I pushed my body, and how amazing my body is for being able to hold the positions.

I leave class with a smile on my face and loving who I am and the body I have.  I will never be a size 2, and I will never be 5'7; but as long as I feel good and healthy, I'll always be happy.

Do you ever feel like this after yoga, or even your favorite spin class? I'd love to hear about it!

xoxo
